An appellate tribunal reduced the period of ban over fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar from earlier five years to 18 months.

The head of the tribunal Justice (Rtd) Aftab Farrukh talking to media here on Saturday announced Rs. Seven million fine along with one-and-half year ban.

The verdict of the tribunal can be challenged in the superior court.

Justice (Rtd) Aftab Farrukh said Shoaib Akhtar was allowed relief for playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) to earn financial benefits of the league.

He said according to the doctors the fast bowler could play cricket for three more years, so the period of ban has been reduced to one and half year.

He said Shoaib has earned Rs. 30 million in IPL, while we have only demanded Rs. seven million fine from him.
